At WellStar Health System we strive to make the on boarding process easy for everyone. From this point the recruiters send the most qualified candidates information on to the manager. You will be notified by e-mail if you are no longer being considered. In the case where the manager would like to bring you in for an interview you will be contacted via telephone by a recruiter. If an offer is made to you for the position, you will be instructed by the recruiter on the pre-employment requirements.

Do you have information on careers in healthcare?
There are many careers in healthcare. WellStar hires certified nursing assistants, lab and pharmacy techs, coders, RN's, etc. Search the internet for programs and schools in the area. Wellstar does offer scholarship/loan to RN's who are accepted into North Georgia Highlands Nursing School and who apply to the scholarship.
I am interested in going into the medical field. What do you suggest?
I would suggest a couple of different things. You can always navigate through this website, read the content and watch the videos of employees, and view the open positions we have. You can read the Job Descriptions attached to those positions and see if they are something you'd be interested in. The requirements for those positions will also be listed so that you can see if you're qualified or what you would need to do to become qualified. I would also suggest talking with local area schools to see what they have to offer in the way of education.
How do I become a volunteer with WellStar?
Volunteer information can be found on our website, www.wellstar.org. Select community services information, a link for volunteer information will be on that page. You will then need to complete volunteer application. Once you have completed the application, fax it to the location you wish to volunteer and someone will contact you with further information.

WellStar does offer tuition reimbursement for undergraduate and graduate degrees. The amount for undergraduate and graduate degrees varies. You must be employed 6 months to be eligible. An application to receive reimbursement is submitted and approved prior to taking the course.
Nursing Questions:
Does WellStar sponsor Foreign Nurses?
It depends on what is meant by sponsor. We do not pay for the “sponsor process” but we will complete the required paperwork by working with your attorney. WellStar welcomes nurses of all nationalities. You must have your "right to work" Visa to be employed. To be considered for employment as a Registered Nurse you must have an Active RN license in the state of Georgia. If you have these items, you can complete an on-line application to the RN position of your choice. If you are selected for the position, WellStar will assist you with the paperwork process.
Does WellStar offer scholarships for Nursing?
Educational Scholarship funds are provided to select applicants on a competitive basis. The Scholarship Committee first considers applicant's currently enrolled in health care fields where a particular shortage has been identified. The following is a list of high demand health careers that may be eligible for scholarships: Pharmacist, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and some Radiology/Imaging positions. We are also offering a new program for PT Assistants which is a 2-year Associate degree program. To get more information about scholarships contact Carol Westbrooks in Organizational Learning at Carol.Westbrooks@wellstar.org or call 770-956-9448.
Does WellStar have programs for students?
There are departments who occasionally bring in "student interns" as part of their curriculum requirements. This is generally done through schools. We offer a program for Nursing Students who work as Techs until they become RN's. It is called the Student Nurse Extern Program. There are specific guidelines and only a set number are hired 2 times per year in December and August. Sometimes students elect to volunteer to get a sense of what it is like in the hospital. You can also look on-line for any position that you feel you are qualified and that will not interfere with your school requirements.
Can you tell me about the Student Nurse Extern Program?
The goal of the nurse extern program is to offer local nursing students an employment opportunity that will enhance their academic program preparation. This program will allow participants to "earn while they learn" while supplementing the staffing needs of the nursing units. This program will also provide the opportunity for students to experience the various areas of nursing which will allow them to make a more informed choice of desired unit upon graduation.
Program guidelines:
Students must have completed one nursing fundamentals clinical rotation in a medical surgical setting.
Students must submit a completed skill checklist: skills verified by their nursing program faculty and documented on the school's competency/skills checklist.
Students must submit an official transcript showing proof of at leas a 2.5 GPA, which must be maintained while employed as a nurse extern.
Students must commit to working 16 hours per pay period.
Students understand that this is a PRN position and hours are not guaranteed. If the SNE is not needed, they will be cancelled according to the accepted float pool procedure.
Students understand that this PRN position is ineligible for most benefits including health and dental.
Students must complete General Orientation and Patient Care Orientation including Wellstar skills checklist.
Students must be willing to work in various medical surgical units.
Students must have a current CPR card with an expiration date of greater than 6 months.
Participation in the SNE program does not obligate the employee to apply for a RN position upon graduation; nor does participation obligate Wellstar to offer a RN position. It is expected that the SNE will contact the nurse recruiter with their intentions for post graduation employment during final semester of their nursing program.
If the SNE decides to terminate their employment, a written two-week notice will be submitted to the SNE coordinator.
Does WellStar offer a RN re-entry class?
We do not offer a re-entry course thorough Wellstar but most nurses who are hired by Wellstar have completed the program offered by Kennestone State University. There are others as well. The general practice is if you have been out of acute care for 4 or more years then you need to complete the re-entry program. This involves both classroom and clinical requirements. Class can be taken on-line or on-campus. You can go on-line to get more information at http://www.kennesaw.edu/chhs/schoolofnursing/. Or call Debra Reda at 770-420-4361 or Dr. Vanice Roberts at 770-423-6064. Once you have successfully completed the course, you can apply to any RN opening of interest. Please keep in mind that most Managers will require that you work fulltime and most positions will be on night shift.
