WellStar offers the largest and most comprehensive network of imaging services in metro Atlanta, completing approximately 670,000 exams (x-ray, CT, MRI & other) in 2009, including those made through the Inpatient, Outpatient and Emergency Departments.

WellStar provides a comprehensive array of preventive & diagnostic risk assessment and screening services, including lung cancer screenings and a genetic cancer risk assessment program which is unique to WellStar as the only non-academic site in Atlanta offering such a service.

In mid Fiscal Year 2009, WellStar initiated a far-reaching, multi-year program called Safety First, aimed at reducing our System’s serious safety event rate by 80% over three years. To date, WellStar has achieved an 87% overall reduction, avoiding 257 infections over the last two fiscal years and saving an estimated 125 lives.

WellStar has invested millions of dollars in medical technology advancements, including electronic medical records, computerized order entry, medication bar coding, Smart Pumps, and our Advanced Patient Simulation Center that builds clinical knowledge and advances multi-disciplinary expertise in healthcare. WellStar is the first non-academic health system in Georgia to have such a simulation center.
