Job Summary:

Supervises internal auditors and works with all levels of management to provide maximum benefit to WellStar. Works with auditors to determine scope of audit work programs and to coordinate audits of new areas. Ensures requests for corrective action plans, detailed reports and executive summary reports are completed in compliance with department policies and procedures. Monitors quality and timeliness of audit procedures to accomplish the objective of an audit. Monitors timeliness of audit progress against audit plans approved by the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Coordinates with the external auditors and Vice President of Accounting to provide maximum benefit for the audit of WellStar's consolidated financials statements. Monitors audits of all components of the consolidated financial statement, including disclosures; as well as audits of required stand-alone financial statements.

Maintains current knowledge of audit techniques and principles and meets CPE credit requirements to preserve professional certification. Performs assigned duties in the spirit of the International standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.


Required Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.


Required Minimum Experience:  Six (6) years auditing experience, with two (2) years healthcare experience;prefer revenue cycle background excellent understanding of the general ledger and generally accepted accounting procedures.  Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor is required.


Required Minimum Skills: The auditor must have excellent understanding of the general ledger and generally accepted accounting principles; excellent analytical skills to interpret quantitative and qualitative data; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs (Excel, Access or Monarch).  The auditor must be able to review multiple projects simultaneously. 


The manager understands all components of the financial statements and must be capable of auditing any portion of the detailed statements and disclosures.


The manager has significant financial statement audit experience, a variety of healthcare auditing experience, public accounting auditing experience, or a variety of audit experiences crossing multiple industries that significantly improves auditing and supervisory abilities.


The manager must be able to mentor inexperienced auditors.  


The manager must be a team player and show respect for auditors at every level.


It is imperative that the auditor has excellent interpersonal skills, display a positive attitude, and promote WellStar’s Credo.
